fumes- yep. Nail polish fumes are bad for all creatures even humans.
The paint on the shell will have the longest ill effect. The turtle uses it's shell to soak up UV rays and create vitamin D3. If its shell is painted it cannot absorb the uv and make vitamin D and this can cause deformities and death.
